Switching to Claude

In the last few months, Claude went from a tool I sometimes used to my primary AI for getting things done.

Hello You & AI Community –

Through most of last year, my top pick for a single AI for non-technical work was ChatGPT. It often led releases, for example offering persistent memory & connectors ahead of its rivals.

Then, in Q4, Anthropic started shipping. They added memory to Claude, closing the gap in terms of features I rely on. Then in quick succession, they dropped Claude Skills, Claude in Excel, Claude Cowork, and Claude in PowerPoint.

Claude in Excel and in PowerPoint let Claude create and edit files in the tools we actually use at work. Claude Skills lets you give Claude a consistent set of directions for recurring tasks—formatting emails, applying brand guidelines, structuring meeting notes—that persist across any chat or project. And Claude Cowork is Claude Code lite for non-technical users, letting Claude act directly on your files and apps. None of these have been matched by the other companies, and together, they took Claude from a tool I sometimes used to my primary AI for getting things done.

So in thinking about what I could offer alumni that would be most valuable to most of you, I decided that a Claude-specific course would be the best next step.

I know that some–maybe even many–of you might be feeling model fatigue. Do I really need to switch to Claude? Am I going to have to switch AIs every six months? I would not be making this recommendation or teaching this course if the gap were small. ChatGPT has been my primary AI since it launched, and while I still use ChatGPT as my thought partner because of all of the context I've built there in projects & memory, I use Claude for almost every task.

For anyone who does knowledge work (which is most of you), the advantages to using Claude are large, and seem to be growing by the week. While the cost of a second AI subscription is real, it's small compared to the incremental amount of value it creates.

If you want to learn Claude together, I've put together a course that focuses on the key features that make it so valuable:

  • Who it's for: People with intermediate AI fluency–we'll assume you can use projects, memory, and model selection already (you can learn about those in Foundations)

  • What we'll cover: Claude Skills, Claude in Excel, Claude in PowerPoint, Claude Cowork, and building & implementing your visual identity with Claude

  • Dates & times: March 13, 20, 27, April 10 & 17 (skipping April 3rd for the Good Friday holiday), 12pm - 1:30pm ET

  • Size: Capped at 12 people

  • Designed for learning:

    • Course includes assignments to apply what you're learning & feedback on what you've tried

    • Will include 7-day access to recordings for personal use

  • Price: $1,000
